What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is an effective, complete, natural system of treatment that uses hyperdilutions of plant, mineral or animal substances to stimulate healing within the body. Homeopathy can have a therapeutic effect on almost any health condition, including mental or emotional disorders. It provides a viable alternative for treating chronic diseases that fail to respond to conventional medical treatment and a reliable method of self-care for minor conditions such as the common cold and flu.

More than anything else, what distinguishes Homeopathy from other systems of medicine is that instead of focusing on the specific causes of disease (such as viruses and bacteria), it focuses on details of the symptoms. For example, the fact that a sore throat may be caused by streptococcus bacteria is less significant than the type of pain, what makes it better or worse (swallowing, warm drinks, cold drinks), what side it’s on, direction of pain (ear, other side of throat) and other expressions of the patient’s unique defenses.

Homeopathy is embraced as an effective form of medicine in many parts of the world, including Great Britain, France, Italy, Germany, Greece, India, Canada, Australia and South America. At the Congress on Traditional Medicine and Healthcare Coverage in Geneva, Switzerland in 1983, the World Health Organization (WHO) recognized Homeopathy as one of the systems of  traditional medicine that should be integrated with conventional medicine in order to provide adequate global health care. There are an estimated 3,500 Homeopathic practitioners in the USA. The FDA considers homeopathic remedies to be official drugs and regulates their manufacturing, labeling, and distribution.
